This specimen was lot 24880 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Catherine II 20 Kopecks 1771 CПБ, St. Petersburg mint, MS63 PCGS. Boldly defined devices, with slate-gray toning over lustrous surfaces, and no significant flaws. Very rare in this condition and the only example certified in Mint State by either PCGS or NGC." This type was issued from St. Petersburg (shown here) and Moscow 1764-96, after which the denomination was suspended for many years. This specimen sold for over five times the catalog value in XF.
