Reuss-Obergreiz 1868-A thaler Dav-799
This specimen was lot 10334 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $1,116. The catalog description noted, "Reuss-Obergreiz. Taler, 1868. NGC MS-64. Mintage of 7,100 pieces. Toned." Reuss was one of the splinter states of Saxon Thuringia and itself underwent several divisions. Many rulers were named Heinrich and several lines consolidated their numbering, resulting in this prince becoming Heinrich the twenty-second. Reuss-Schleiz was the only line to survive into the unified empire. This type is fairly common.
