The first specimen was lot 700 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $4,993.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Reuss-Gera. Taler, 1620-WA. Heinrich der Jungere (1572-1635). NGC AU-58." The second specimen was lot 1140 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €5,000 (about US$6,459 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"REUSS JÜNGERER LINIE GERA, HERRSCHAFT Heinrich der Jüngere, 1572-1635. Reichstaler 1620, Saalfeld. Dav-7308;. RR Attraktives Exemplar, min. Prägeschwäche, fast vorzüglich. (lordship of Reuss-Gera, Henry the Younger, 1572-1635, thaler of 1620, Saalfeld mint. Rare, attractive example, lightly cleaned, choice extremely fine.)"
Another rare issue from an insignificant locale. Formed in 1206, the line lapsed several times before falling permanently extinct in 1802, passing to Reuss-Schleiz.
