Kunker sale 264, lot 3799
This specimen was lot 3799 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €7,500 (about US$9,689 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"STADT Dukat 1651, mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Hans Siegmund Federer. Die gekreuzten Stadtschlüssel in verzierter Barockkartusche//Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Schwert und Zepter in den Fängen, zwischen den Hälsen Reichsapfel, auf der Brust zweifeldiges Wappen (Österreich/Lothringen), umgeben von der Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies. GOLD. RR Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 207, Osnabrück 2012, Nr. 7003 und der Slg. Bach, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 238, Osnabrück 2013, Nr. 4607. (Germany, city of Regensburg, ducat of 1651, in the name of Ferdinand III. obverse: crossed keys in baroque cartouche; reverse: crowned double headed eagle with sword and scepter in its claws, supporting the arms of Austria-Lorraine on its breast. Rare, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type is listed for 1638-57 yet despite the fourteen known dates (including 1643), it is rare. The south German free cities were ruined and depopulated by the Thirty Years War.
