This specimen was lot 334 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €9,000 (about US$12,130 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Speciestaler 1741, EGN, Berlin. Mit kleinem Ordenskreuz. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Ordensband, Kreuz und umgelegtem Mantel//Ovaler Schild in gekrönter Rokokoeinfassung, darin der gekrönte Adler mit Zepter und Reichsapfel in den Fängen, auf der Brust gekröntes Monogramm, verziert mit Lorbeer- und Palmzweig, unten Münzzeichen EGN, oben zu den Seiten die geteilte Jahreszahl 17 - 41. RR Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Tönung, vorzüglich +. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 49, Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 1268. (kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II (the Great), 1740-86, specie thaler of 1741, Berlin mint, with small Order cross. Obverse: armored bust right with Order ribbon and cross; reverse: oval arms in crowned rococo cartouche; within arms crowned eagle with sceptre and orb, crowned monogram on breast, suported by laurel and palm wreath, date above. Rare, very attractive example with fine toning, extremely fine or better.)"
This is the first thaler of Frederick the Great and the only thaler issued between Dav-2577 of 1727 and Dav-2582 of 1750.
