This specimen was lot 21748 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro V gold 5000 Reis 1861, MS62 NGC, full mint brilliance with a light frost to the bust, minor handling in the exposed fields." This type appeared after the conversion to decimal coinage in 1836. It was struck 1860-61 but is seldom seen compared to later issues that featured Luis I.

Recorded mintage: 81,000.

Specification: 8.87 g, .917 fine gold, .261 troy oz AGW, 25 mm diameter; this specimen: 8.87 grams.
