Shown is a gold 2500 réis of 1851. The first specimen was lot 3262 in UBS sale 76. It was struck the one year only and along with issues dated 1838 and 1853, is the only issue of this denomination in gold. Gold 2000, 5000 and 10000 réis saw much more extensive issues. Maria II reigned 1834-53 after overcoming the usurpation of her uncle Miguel I.

Recorded mintage: 58,327.

Specification: 4.48 g, .917 fine gold, .132 troy oz AGW, 19.5 mm diameter.
