The first specimen was lot 5202 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "Portugal. 1000 Reis, 1851. Maria II, 1834-1853. Crowned head left. Reverse: Crowned arms. One year type. Well struck and lustrous. Choice Almost Uncirculated to Uncirculated." This is the first issue of this gold denomination and is somewhat available despite the small mintage. The next issue featured Pedro V (KM 495).

Recorded mintage: 12,099.

Specification: 1.79 g, .917 fine gold, .052 troy oz AGW.
