Portugal 1750 400 reis

This specimen was lot 1220 in a recent Soler y Llach sale (Barcelona, January 2010). The type is recorded in the SCWC as being issued 1706-08 and 1750; all dates of this cruzado are scarce but this one is the most available. It was marked 400 réis but traded for 480 réis. King João V died in 1750, to be succeeded by José I (r. 1750-77).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.7-17.3 g, .917 fine silver, 35 mm diameter.
