Künker sale 293, lot 1114
This specimen was lot 1114 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €4,800 (about US$6,470 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"POMMERN, POMMERN, HERZOGTUM NACH DER LANDESVEREINIGUNG VON 1625, Bogislaw XIV. (1620-) 1625-1637. Reichstaler 1628, Köslin. Von großer Seltenheit. Kabinettstück. Prachtvolle Patina, kl. Prägeschwäche, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Duchy of Pomerania, after the union of 1625, Bogislav XIV, 1625-37, thaler of 1628, Koslin mint. Very rare, cabinet piece, slightly weak strike, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
Another rare issue from this Baltic state. On the lapse of the dynasty in 1637, the duchy was contested between Sweden and Brandenburg until they agreed to partition it by the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As Sweden gradually weakened, Brandenburg (later Prussia) gradually nibbled away at the Swedish portion until the remainder was seized in 1815.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 28.55 g, silver, this specimen 28.72 g.

Catalog reference: KM 113, Dav-7252, Hildisch 337 var; Olding 244.
