This specimen was lot 31505 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Wladislaus IV Taler 1634-II XF45 NGC, Bold for the issue, displaying attractive tone that concentrates near the edges and surfaces that despite a few marks mixed among subtler signs of handling, are certainly finer than most seen. From the Jamestown Collection." The SCWC records this type for 1633-40 and, while not common, as among the more available Polish thalers. Wladyslaw IV, a member of the Swedish Wasa family, ruled Poland 1633-48. The initials "II" stand for Jacob Jacobsen of Emden.
