The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1864-97 at the Lima mint for Peru. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design; the SCWC runs thru KM 196.9 thru KM 196.12 just for 1881. They vary by the location of the engraver's initials. This one, with initials "RL" at the base of the column, is KM 196.10. A similar coin, KM 192-9, was struck in Santiago by the Chileans during the War of the Pacific. This date is common. Assayers BF are recorded for 1881-82 only.
