Peru 1867/57-YB sol
This specimen was lot 6078 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it sold for $161. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peru. Sol, 1867/57-YB. Republic. Seated liberty. Lustrous. PCGS graded MS-62. The Victor Jaramillo Collection." The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1864-76 at the Lima mint. There are many varieties and subtypes of this basic design and later issues were emitted 1879-97 and 1914-16. The mintage of this date is not recorded but later issues were in the millions. All varieties listed in the SCWC note the overdate 1867/57, but variations exist in the assayer's initial ("Y.B." v.s "YB") and the presence or absence of the engraver's initials "R-B" in the stems of the wreath.
