This medio dinero, or half dime, was struck in Lima in 1863. Most issued after 1898 were made from melted down one sol coins. Varieties and overdates abound; for 1863, no varieties are recorded. A later type, with a slightly different figure of seated Liberty, was issued 1890-1917 (KM 206). The silver coin was replaced in 1918 by a copper-nickel five centavos.

Recorded mintage: 228,000.

Specification: 1.25 g, .900 fine silver, reeded edge.
