Goldberg sale 106, lot 2361
Peru G106-2361r.jpg

This specimen was lot 2361 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peru. ½ Real, 1856-MB (Lima). Standing Liberty. Brilliant mint luster. PCGS graded MS-64." This type was struck at Lima 1840-56 and at Cuzco 1827-35; the complete span of Peru standing liberty half reales runs 1826-56. Assayer MB is recorded for 1839-56. The date is listed in the SCWC as common, though all Peruvian minors are scarcer in nice condition than the catalog values would indicate. It was legal tender in the United States until 1857 for 6¼¢.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.65 g, .903 fine silver, .048 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 144.7.
