This specimen was lot 24775 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos IV gold 4 Escudos 1797-IJ, [A]U50 NGC, well-struck details with abundant mint luster, one small lamination on the reverse rim at 11 o'clock." It is one of a series minted at Lima 1791-1807 for Charles IV. The type is considerably scarcer than the eight escudos.

Specification: 13.54 g, .875 fine gold, .380 troy oz AGW.
