Aureo sale 238, lot 160
This specimen was lot 160 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 420 euro (about US$666 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1790. Lima. IJ. 8 reales. Busto de Carlos III. Ordinal IV. Golpecitos. Muy escasa. MBC+/EBC (eight reales of 1790, Lima mint, bust of Charles III with the ordinal of Charles IV. Rim bumps, very scarce, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1789-91 for Charles IV as a transitional type until hubs with the bust of Charles IV were available. Assayer IJ is recorded for 1787-1803.

Recorded mintage: 3,467,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, .896 fine silver, .780 troy oz ASW.
