Aureo sale 238, lot 151
This specimen was lot 151 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 130 euro (about US$206 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"1783. Lima. MI. 8 reales. Buen ejemplar. EBC-. (eight reales of 1783, Lima mint. Nice example, about extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1772-89 for Charles III and supplanted the pillar dollar. A slight debasement accompanied the design change. Assayer MI is recorded for 1780-87.
