This specimen was lot 5980 in Goldberg sale 72 (Los Angeles, February 2013), where it sold for $287.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Peru. 8 Reales, 1773-JM (Lima). Charles III. Sharply struck with good eye appeal. NGC graded About Uncirculated, Details (Surface Hairlines). The Victor Jaramillo Collection." This type was struck 1772-89 for Charles III and supplanted the pillar dollar. A slight debasement accompanied the design change.
