This specimen was lot 24844 in Heritage sale 3016 (Orlando, FL, January 2012), where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1773 JM, better XF, some remaining luster. Strong fields." This coin was minted 1772-89; later issues of this type (1785-89) were struck in gold lowered to .875 fine.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, .901 fine gold, .784 troy oz AGW.
