This specimen was of lot 24510 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $5,581.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos III gold 8 Escudos 1767-JM, AU53 NGC, boldly struck with highly lustrous surfaces, one small lamination to the right of the coat of arms on the reverse. An attractive example of this very scarce early bust type."

Recorded mintage: unknown. All the dates of this type are rare; the SCWC prices them over three times the later issues of 1772-89.

Specification: 27.07 g, .917 fine gold, .798 troy oz AGW.
