Aureo sale 243, lot 607
This specimen was lot 607 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 3,200 € (about $4,834 including buyer's fees). The catalog[1] noted,
"Carlos III (1759-1788). 1763. Lima. JM. 8 escudos. Busto tipo ´cara de rata´. Con punto encima de la L de Lima. Acuñación empastada. Parte de brillo original. Rara. MBC+. (Eight escudos of 1763, Lima mint. "Rat nose" bust, with dot over mintmark. Slightly weak strike, rare, some luster, very fine plus.)"
This type was struck at Lima 1763-68 and is rare.
