Aureo sale 242, lot 143
The specimen shown was lot 143 in Aureo y Calico sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 5,500 € (about $8,539 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Carlos II (1665-1700). 1701. Lima. (H). 8 escudos. (Cal. falta) (Cal.Onza reseña el 1701 (nº 115) pero sólo rectificado sobre 0) . Rev.: L- 8 -H / P -V -A / 7-0-1. Limpiada. Rayita. Rarísima. MBC+. (Charles II (1665-1700), eight escudos of 1701, Lima mint. Cleaned, scratched, very rare, very fine plus.)"
This eight escudos was struck 1696-1701 in very limited numbers.
