This specimen was lot 10520 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $499. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal States. Sessanta (60) Baiocchi, 1795-XXI. NGC MS-62. Pius VI (1795-99). From the Demarete Collection." This type was issued 1793-99 and seems to be the only issue of this denomination. The piastra, last issued 1740, was worth 105 baiocchi. The early coinage of the Papal States used an antique monetary system. Five quattrini = one baiocco; 5 baiocchi = 1 grosso; 6 grossi = 4 carlini = 3 paoli = 1 testone; 10 testone = 1 doppia; 100 baiocchi = 1 scudi.
