Papal St Fr-229 rev Tom F.jpg

This scarce type is listed for 1740 only, issued while the papal throne was vacant. It is accompanied by a one zecchino (Fr-227) and a half zecchino (Fr-228). Later in 1740, Benedict XIV was elected and his zecchini (|Fr-231) commenced. The SCWC lists this issue as debased gold but this coin does not show the greenish toning one would expect.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.75 g, .555 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-229, KM 937, Ber-2716.
