Jean Elsen sale 132, lot 598
This specimen was lot 598 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €300 (about US$380 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Clément X (1670-1676), (Emelio Altieri), AR piastre, 1675, Rome. Année Sainte. D/ Armoiries. R/ La Porte Sainte murée. Très Beau. (Italy, Pontifical State, Clement X (1670-76), silver piastra of 1675, Rome mint, Holy Year. Obverse: arms; reverse: the Holy Door bricked up. Very fine.)"
This date is a one year type struck in honor of the Holy Year declared by the Pope for 1675. Several other piastri (KM 367, 368, 369 and 370) were issued that year. The piastra was the Italian equivalent of the German thaler.
