The first specimen was lot 2164 in Jean Elsen sale 103 (Brussels, December 2009), where it sold for 750 euro. The catalog description[1] noted:
"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Clément X (1670-1676), (Emelio Altieri), AR piastre, 1675, Rome. Année Sainte. Droit: Armoiries. Revers: DILIGIT DNVS PORTAS SION Un groupe de pèlerins devant la Porte Sainte dans le portique de Saint-Pierre. Légère fin de plaque. Belle patine. Provient de notre vente 42, 16 décembre 1995, 1356. presque Superbe." (Italy, Papal States, Clement X (1670-76, birth name Emelio Altieri) silver piastra of 1675, Rome mint, issued for the Holy Year. Obverse: arms; reverse: a group of pilgrims before the Holy Gate of Saint Peter's. About Extremely Fine).
This date is a one year type struck in honor of the Holy Year declared by the Pope for 1675. Several other piastras (KM 367, 369, 370 and 371) were issued that year. The piastra was the Italian equivalent of the German thaler.
