This specimen was lot 35022 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $793. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal States. Giulio, MDCLXX (1670)-I. NGC AU-58. Clement X (1670-76). From the Demarete Collection." Coinage of the Papal States remains popular today for, besides the strong associations for Catholics, this period saw a string of commemorative issues featuring wonderfully vivid portraits of the various men who occupied the throne of St. Peter. This issue was issued 1670 only. A giulio was one third of a testone and one tenth a piastra.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, .916 fine.

Catalog reference: KM-340; Berm-2018; Muntoni II-30.
