The first specimen was lot 24999 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $_. The catalog description[1] noted, "Papal States. Clement XI Piastra Year VII (1708), XF45 PCGS, attractive pewter gray patina with bold features, an attractive 18th century Piastra." This date is a one year type struck in 1708. The piastra was the Italian equivalent of the German thaler and was superseded by the scudo after 1740.
