bishopric of Paderborn in 1789
This specimen was lot 3269 in Sincona sale 51 (Zurich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Paderborn, Bistum, Wilhelm Anton von Asseburg, 1763-1782. Taler 1765, Neuhaus. Gutes vorzüglich. Leicht justiert. (Germany, bishopric of Paderborn, Wilhelm Anton von Asseburg, 1763-1782, thaler of 1765, Neuhaus mint. Good extremely fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"
The bishopric of Paderborn was a Protestant, most likely a Lutheran. Napoleon's mediatization swept away all the old ecclesiastical states in 1803-10.
