PCGS 147220 - 1864 2C, BN
This type, struck 1864-73 in large quantities, is available in all grades. The denomination was initially popular but as bronze cents became readily available and the nickel five cents was introduced in 1866, it became superfluous and mintages dwindled. Large and small motto varieties exist for 1864. The two cent piece was the first United States coin to bear the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST."
Recorded mintage: 19,847,500.
Specification: 6.22 g, bronze, 23 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by James Longacre.
