Ostfriesland in 1648
This specimen was lot 944 in Sincona sale 11 (Zurich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Ostfriesland, Grafschaft Edzard II. und Johann von Rietberg, 1566-1591. Taler 1568. Beschnitten. Fast sehr schön-sehr schön. (County of Ostfriesland, Edward II and John of Rietberg, 1566-91, thaler of 1568. Clipped, very fine.)"
This is the first thaler from this scarce locality this author has been able to locate. The weight (24.49 g) reflects the loss from clipping.
