This specimen was lot 2728 in Sincona sale 26 (Zurich, October 2015), where it sold for 3,600 CHF (about US$4,447 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Nurnberg, Taler 1698. Sehr selten. FDC. Prachtexemplar. (Germany, city of Nurnberg, thaler of 1698, very rare, uncirculated, proof example.)"
This type is listed in the SCWC as only scarce but not rare; this specimen realized 75% more than the catalog value. This type was issued to celebrate the Peace of Ryswyck, a brief interlude in the wars between France, England, the Dutch and the Austrians. This type was accompanied by a 4 ducat (KM 231), 5 ducat (KM 232), 6 ducat (KM 235), 8 ducat (KM 240) and 9 ducat (KM 241).
