This specimen is from a type struck 1912-40 for Nicaragua, and is among the scarcer early dates. The late twenties marked a period of anarchy of Nicaragua, ending in the early thirties when the U.S. connived at the takeover of power by Somoza. The superseding type featured a bust of the conquistador Cordoba.

Recorded mintage: 100,000.

Specification: copper-nickel.

Catalog reference: KM 12.
