This specimen was lot 1268 in Sincona sale 6 (Zurich, May 2012), where it sold for 16,000 CHF (about $19,688 with buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKREICH Arches Carlo I Gonzaga, Herzog von Nevers & Rethel, 1595-1637; Mantua und Montferrat, 1630-1637. Quart d’écu 1608, Charleville. @CAROL·GONZAGA·D·NIVERN·ET RETH Kreuz mit Lilien an den Balkenenden. Rv. `SVP·PRINCEPS·ARCHENSIS·1608 ` FI – DES Gekröntes Wappen zwischen zwei Adlern. Obverse: floriate cross; reverse: crowned arms between two eagles. Of the highest rarity, perhaps unique, fine patina, extremely fine. From Auktion Ratto, January 1962, Lot 259. Charleville was founded by the duke in 1606 and his mint established there.)"
This rare piece is not listed in the SCWC, which mentions a escalin, a half écu and full écu but no quarter écu. This coin seems to be milled and is much better struck than contemporary French quarter écus.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver; this specimen is 9,42 g.
