Naples Alb27-1475r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1475 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NAPLES: Carlo II, 1674-1700, AR tari, 1691. Initials IM // AG-A, central obverse adjustments, moderately toned, About Unc." The listings in the SCWC for Naples and Sicily are very sketchy and do not include this coin. The SCWC does note that 12 carlini = six tari = one piastra, where a piastra is roughly equal to a peso. Charles II, the last Hapsburg king of Spain, was also king of Naples and Sicily. After his death the area passed out of the hands of the Spanish crown, only to be reconquered by them in the 1730's.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-117.
