Sincona sale 47, lot 1469
This specimen was lot 1469 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"GERMANY, Montfort, Grafschaft, Hugo IV. und Johann VII. 1611-1621. Taler 1620, Erolzheim. Mit Titel Ferdinands II. Arabeske am Ende der Vorderseitenumschrift und vor der Jahreszahl. Äusserst seltene Variante. Sehr schön. (Germany, county of Montfort, Hugo IV and John VII, 1611-21, thaler of 1620, Erolzheim mint, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Arabesque at the end of the obverse legend and by the date. Extremely rare variety, Very fine.)"
Montfort is an extremely obscure locality now in the province of Limburg in the Netherlands. We have filed it under the Austrian Netherlands as the counts sold out to the Austrian emperor in 1780.
