Middlesex 1795 half penny token D&H-315c
This specimen was lot 2745 in Goldberg sale 91 (Los Angeles, June 2016), where it sold for $235. The catalog description noted, "Great Britain. Halfpenny token, 1795 NGC MS65 RB. George III. Hall's London (Middlesex) Conder copper Penny token. Obverse dwarf standing: JEFFERY DUNSTAN MAYOR OF GARRAT. Reverse, text on 3 lines in centre and round periphery: NEAR FINSBURY SQUARE LONDON 1795, and TO BE HAD AT THE CURIOSITY HOUSE CITY ROAD. Edge plain. 32mm diameter. Jeffrey Dunstan, a travelling dealer in old wigs was elected Mayor of Garrat, a small village in Surrey. He was superseded by a muffin seller 'Sir' George Cook, and died from alcoholism in 1797. A rare token in this condition. Mint state with original color. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown."
