This specimen was lot 25328 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1897Mo-M, MS65 NGC, subtle gray patina, very attractive. Final date of this series." We hasten to assure collectors contemplating this series that this date from the Mexico City mint normally sells for a fraction of the price realized above. The Mexico City mint issued this type 1824-97 and most dates are readily available.

Recorded mintage: 8,621,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
