Shown is an 1890OaE balance scale five centavos, of a type struck 1890 only. This issue from Oaxaca is among the rarer dates, especially in nice condition as here. Other mints include Hermosillo, Culiacan, Durango, Zacatecas, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Alamos and Potosi. This specimen was lot 6479 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $316.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1890-OaE. VERY RARE. Traces of adjustment marks, cleaned and retoned. EXTREMELY FINE."

Specification: 1.35 g, .903 fine silver, .039 troy oz ASW.

Mintage: 48,000.
