This specimen is a better date of a series struck 1871-72, 1883-89 at the Chihuahua mint. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. This date is common but scarce in nice condition. The second specimen was lot 9055 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Specification: 6.77 g, .903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 14,000.

Catalog reference: KM 406.1.
