Mexico 1883-Mo M 25 centavos
This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1869-90 at the Mexico City mint. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. The first specimen was lot 9114 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $230. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 25 Centavos, 1883/2-MoM. Very scarce overdate. NGC MS-63." The second specimen was lot 9115 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $431.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 25 Centavos, 1883-MoM. Lightly toned. NGC MS-64."
