Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Chihuahua is fairly common for the mint but still priced over double that of a common Guanajuato issue. Like most fifty centavos, high grade specimens are extremely rare. This specimen was lot 9143 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $316.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 50 Centavos, 1883-CHaM. NGC AU-55.”

Specification: 13.54 g, .903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 12,000.

Catalog reference: KM 407.1.
