This specimen was lot 11366 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $352. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. San Luis Potosi. Centavo, 1878-PP. NGC VF Details--Environmental Damage. Error mint mark 'Pp' instead of 'Pi'." Most issues of centavos from San Luis Potosi are scarce and generally found in low grade. This error is rare and unlisted. Centavos dated 1878 are also recorded from Guadalajara, Zacatecas and Mexico City. Only four dates are known for Potosi: 1871, 1877, 1878 and 1891.

Recorded mintage: 751,000.

Specification: 8 g, copper, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.
