Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Mexico City is rare; assayer B is fairly common for the mint. The first specimen was lot 9199 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1874/3-MoM. Very scarce date. Possibly the finest known. NGC MS-61.” The second specimen was lot 6490 in Ponterio sale 155.

Specification: 13.54 g, .903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
