This specimen was struck at Mexico City, a common date of a type struck there 1869-90. Assayer “M” is also recorded for 1874, as well as overdates 1874/3 and 1874/69 and overassayer B/M. Many dates of the balance scale twenty-five centavos are unknown in high grade. The first specimen was lot 9107 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $373.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 25 Centavos, 1874/3-MoB/M. NGC MS-64." The second specimen was lot 2283 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $129.25. The catalog description[2] noted, "Mexico. 25 Centavos, 1874/3-Mo B NGC MS61. Balance scale. Lightly toned. Only 3 examples graded higher in the NGC census. NGC graded MS-61."
