Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Guanajuato is common, including the overdate. The first specimen was lot 9179 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $161. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Guanajuato. 50 Centavos, 1872/1-GoS. NGC AU Details--Surface Hairlines .” The second specimen was lot 9180 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $546.25. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Guanajuato. 50 Centavos, 1872-GoS. Lightly toned, sharply struck. NGC MS-61.”

Specification: 13.54 g, .903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 144,000.
