This specimen was lot 40688 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $9,988. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guanajuato. 8 Reales, 1870-Go YF. NGC AU-55. VERY RARE 'YF' Assayer 1870 Guanajuato 8 Reales. VERY RARE and one of the finest examples known. Toned." The Guanajuato mint issued this type 1825-97 and most dates are readily available, including the 1870Go-FR. The Guanajuato mint issued no eight reales in 1869, 1871 or 1872.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
