This specimen was lot 21184 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1859-DoCP. NGC AU-53. Slightly weak struck but problem free and lustrous. Richard Long notes, 'A few extremely rare examples in the AU to BU range are known but most of the coins are in the VF to XF range.'" Durango is a common mint for eight escudos but many dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date.

Specification: 27.07 g, .875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
