close up of date

This specimen was struck at the Durango mint in 1848, one of a type struck there 1832-69. While Durango produced substantial numbers of eight reales and gold, silver minors are scarce and no four reales exist. Assayer RM is listed for 1830-48. Two overdates, 1848/5 and 1848/36, are noted; the latter is depicted here.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, .903 fine silver, .049 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-370.3.
